This is an Intensive 4 Day course designed as an introduction to Photoshop for those new to the programme. It is mainly for intended for those wishing to get the most out of single pictures rather than photographers handling high volumes of images such as Wedding and Social photographers.

Using Photoshop CS4, we will take you through the initial considerations of how to save images and explain image resolution – and explain the most efficient photoshop workflow.
We will explain file types and how to use the powerful Camera Raw plug in for quality pictures.
The basic tools and procedures such as Cropping, using Levels and Curves to control contrast and other tools to achieve colour balance and control will be fully explained. We’ll also look at image sharpening and the use of Layers and Quick Mask – two of Photoshop’s most powerful tools.
This full day course is an ideal introduction to Photoshop for those who find learning from books and videos difficult. It is designed for those using the full version of Photoshop (CS,CS2, CS3, CS4). Users of Photoshop Elements may find parts of the course useful but Elements is not covered specifically.

introduced to the basics of how aperture, shutter speed, lighting and composition control the creative

process of capturing images. And you’ll master basic photo editing to enhance your photos for printing

or viewing on-screen. The course includes field trips.

Duration: 20 hours  in  4 weeks

2 sessions per week – 2.5 hours a session.

• Hands-on shooting with field trips
• Basic photo enhancement / editing techniques using photo-editing software

Course Outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

• Have an understanding of camera handling and functions of your Digital SLR.
• Get the most out of your SLR and its many capabilities and settings to use to creative effect; with an emphasis on hands-on practical field trips.
• Train your eye to capture great images through the creative process of controlling lighting, shutter speed, aperture, exposure control, white balance, ISO settings and focus options.
• Give that edge to your photographs by learning how to turn an average photo into a great one through composition and depth of field.
• Have the confidence and skills to shoot a variety of subjects including: portraits, landscapes, architecture, nature, motion, macro.
• Understand the difference between file formats and processing your images for web, email and print.

Course Prerequisites

• No prior photography knowledge is required. This course is best suited for those who have a digital
• SLR camera, and if you have a compact camera in addition to your DSLR bring that along too.
• Bring your camera lenses, manual and cable.
• Memory cards. At least 1GB card. Charged camera battery and a spare battery if possible.
• Tripod, if you have one.
• Basic computer / internet skills with PC or Mac.

Lecturer’s Biography

Hassan Ahmed was Living in Italy-(Abruzzo)  working as computer engineer  in a television station as a software developer and Oracle database administrator. in addition working as a photographer and teaching digital photography. Visual arts in general were amongst his hobbies until he developed a particular interest in landscape photography since  1996 , cityscape,Macro, portrait and night photography are mainly the categories he always studying during 13 years resident in Italy, exploring, and experimenting with at the moment.

This intensive 4 -Day course will be an introduction to digital photography ; discussing, demonstrating and field practice.
The aim is not only how to make a successful picture but participants will learn to create their own unique vision and understanding of the world surrounding them, and to be able through photography, to express themselves.

Course content :

• Discussion about arts in general and why photography has become an important art in our modern society. How we learn to become visually aware of the world around us and creative while having a good time.

• How does a camera work and master all of its function and to discover  how the eye and the camera work.

• Exposure : Control of Shutter Speed, Aperture and Depth of Field, which are the main tools for creative shooting.

• Principles and dynamics of light and how to use it in shooting ( In-  and outdoor lighting)

• Principles of a balanced composition and how to take perfect landscape, portraits and object photographs.

• How to avoid common mistakes in photography and some good tips.

• Use of the computer lab to explore possibilities and techniques for  editing images, using your own pictures.

Each class will include time for discussing participants own works for self evaluation. Photography works of other artists will be shown to discover what makes it a good  photography and possible faults.

Sessions will include indoor shooting training with light set up , and an afternoon (sunset) outdoor shooting on-field trip.

Note : All participants must bring along a digital camera, preferably SLR (Single Lens Reflex) cameras. If not available, normal Compaq types will do. Make sure to bring along enough memory card space, full charged battery and  a laptop if available with any version of Photoshop installed.
